This is my entry in the Novice category for this years makers challenge. Being a beginner and still very much in the learning process.

This is a period style Chippendale mirror I made for my best friend from the marine corps’ wedding gift.

Made from hard maple and walnut it was a very fun project. Some of the fretwork was identically copied from a period mirror I own while some of the fretwork is designed from myself to add personal detail. I started by hand milling all the lumber and scroll sawing the fretwork. I then hand-cut the two marquetry pieces inlaid into the mirror. The shell being a reproduction copy from a clock in the Yale collection. And the tortoise I hand drew then cut, sand shaded and assembled. I used Edwardian script font and hand carved the family name into the header of the mirror as well. Assembled with hide glue and finish nails then used a shellac as a finish coat. “The Eatons” Mirror.
