William & Mary Dressing Table

The piece is a William & Mary Dressing Table. It was inspired by the same piece on the SAPFM website, drawing by John McAlister. It is built from solid Cherry with a secondary wood of Poplar for drawer sides, back, and some inner workings. The case and drawers are put together with hand cut dovetails. Legs are turned with round mortise and tenons connecting them together and to the upper case. The hardest part of the build was the molding on the bottom of the front and sides of the upper case. I made these out of 1/16” strips of cherry glued together and bent around forms to match the front and side bottom profile. The piece was sanded up to 220 grit and finished with Watco Oil Natural, with 3 coats of polyurethane over that top. This piece took me around 6 weeks to build.
